Welcome To The Family *Godfather Voice*

The Project iOS Origin Story

The Godfather Welcomes You

Well, it’s official. You’re part of the family!

Legendary decision.

We don’t have a lot of time, so let’s get you caught up to speed on the family history. Here’s how we (Project iOS) got here.

It all starts with a guy named Tim, a toolbox, and a 1900’s psychologist. (Not what you were expecting I know)

Now I know what you're thinking. Who the hell is Tim? Fair question, let me explain.

Tim is my father. He's 63 years old, born in a small farming community in Iowa, and happens to have the most amazing tool box I've ever laid my eyes upon.

This is no yellow, Tonka, plastic type of thing. This is a serious f’ing tool box, picture this.

Fire truck red, drawers out the wazoo, four wheels perfectly oiled, and organized to a level that would make Marie Kondo’s head spin.

Need a screwdriver? Name the size, he's got them all. Need a hammer? Take your pick; regular, mallet, or tap?

Tim’s Toolbox

We're talking serious options folks. Now, second thing I know you're wondering. Why do I give a damn about this guy's dad's toolbox? I'm so happy you asked.

This is where the psychologist comes into play. His name is Abraham Maslow. Ever heard of him?

Big leap I know from 63 year old Tim from Iowa to early 1900's American psychologist, however hear me out.

Ol’ Abe popularized a late 1800's concept referred to as the Law of the Instrument.

This law explains a common cognitive bias where we, as humans, tend to build an over-reliance on a familiar tool. A.K.A. we find something that works a few times, and then we overuse the heck out of it, turning it into something that creates issues instead of solutions.

Inconsistency At It’s Finest

In 1966 Maslow conveyed this concept beautifully by (roughly) saying, “If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.” Now bring back Tim!

You see, I learned pretty early on, thanks to pop’s toolbox, that if you wanted to get the job done properly, you were going to need more than one tool.

You might start the job with a hammer, but finish it with the screwdriver, or maybe the level. Rarely is it ever a one tool job.

In essence that's what o’l Abe was conveying as well.

If you only have one way to work through a situation, only one way to process, you will treat every situation the same, and that’s costing you immense time, energy, and resources.

As a leader in your field, mastering your inner game is no different.

If you only have one mentality, or one way for approaching challenging situations then you're simply a ticking time bomb just seconds away from implosion.

The Time To Train Your Mind Is Now.

So here’s the truth bomb you do want.
